Music of the Day: The Beautiful Band "Bastille"

Greetings earthlings! The previous recommendation I released for music was Owl City, which is very happy sounding, yet I realize that isn't everyone's "thing." To those who did enjoy Owl City, well, sometimes we all need some music that's more calmed down too, right? Therefore I would like to dedicate this post to the band known as Bastille. Most of you have heard of their song "Pompeii," yet there is more to this band than one single song.
Originally, Bastille would have been referred to as "he" instead of "them," as it is today. In 2010, singer-songwriter Dan Smith created this English rock band in London, England. Yet over time, this became a four-man band with Dan Smith (songwriter/lead vocalist), Kyle Simmons (percussionist/synthesizer part/keyboard part/backing vocals), Will Farquarson (keyboard part/guitar/backing vocals), and Chris "Woody" Wood (drummer/backing vocals). Fun fact: Bastille got its name from Bastille Day- celebrated on Dan Smith's birthday (July 14th).
As mentioned earlier, Bastille fits under the genre of rock. More specifically, it fits under the categories of indie rock, indie pop, synthpop, and indietronica. Most of their songs are about a deeper/sadder meaning to life seen through symbolism of lyrics. For example, the song Pompeii could be interpreted as a description of how still and destroyed the city Pompeii was after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Yet by listening closer with deeper thought, Pompeii could be a symbol of a man who realizes he is stuck in a monotonous, never-changing life instead of the life he dreamed of having as his optimism is destroyed bit by bit.
